blog post 15- RESEARCH- Why is sound so important

In films, sound is very important. Sound being used can establish tone, atmosphere and help the audience to gather in clues about the genre, plot,or characters. George Lukas says that 'sound is 50%'.This means that sound is as important as the other 50% which is image. Without sound the production wouldn't be half as good that it would if sound was used. In films, soundscapes are used, this is a combination of sounds used at the same time. A sound design is how all sounds are created in order to be used in the production. When watching a film without sound the feelings iven was boring, early loss of interest, hard to realise plot, and couldn't recognise the genre. However, with sound, the film opening then became interesting, enjoyable, easier to spot the genre, easier to understand the plot, and gives an understanding through dialogue. Sound can make a big difference in productions. Sound can help you to recognise the plot of the film giving you the ability to understand the film and make predictions. Sound allows the audience to interact with the film which makes it more enjoyable.
