RESEARCH- Post 12- RESEARCH- Target Audience Profiles

Target audience research;

What is an audience?
- An audience is a group of people who participate in a show or encounter a work of art, literature (in which they are called "readers"), theatre, music (in which they are called "listeners"), video games (in which they are called "players"), or academics in any medium.

How do we define target audiences?
  - There are three types of target audiences. The primary audience-main audience, has the direct interest in the product. The secondary audience- product is not designed for them, however they may view it because of their children, friends, family. Lastly, tertiary are those slightly interested in the product due to something they know within it. Would not usually view/read it.

Why is it useful for a film to have a target audience?
- It is useful for a film to have a target audience so that they make suitable content for that particular audience. For example an adult film would not be suitable for teenagers, whereas a PG or 12A would be. The film producers will also likely to ask themselves; 'How to make it appeal to my audience?' and they would usually think about props to use and characters to star in their film.

Which audiences do you think different genres appeal to?
- When thinking about targeting and audience it is useful to consider things like; age, gender, class, ethnic group, interests and uses & gratifications. The teenage audience would most likely be attracted to comedy,action, adventure and chick-flicks. Whereas adults aged 25-33 are most likely to watch comedy and drama.
