A genre can be defined as a 'type' or 'category' of art, music, literature etc. Genres are used to categorise different products that have similar characteristics. Genres are important in media especially. Genres can help the audience to realise and acknowledge their favourite genre to match this with things they may like or dislike. It is also useful for film makers as you can spot codes and conventions in certain genres which can help them follow the order in the production. Following codes and conventions allows the film to achieve a certain affect and attracts a specific audience.
There is also something called a sub-genre. This is a divisions of genres within a music, art,literature production etc. Also,there are hybrid genres. This is a cross-genre that blends in with two or more genres from its themes and elements.

This still is an from the 'action' Genre. This is decided because the characters involved were army men only walking through a destroyed own that looks like it had been attacked. I like the 'action' genre because there is never a dull moment and always an exiting plot or story line. This keeps the audience entertained.
This still is from the 'comedy' genre. This was decided because it follows the typical high school comedy movie with a group of young girls sitting in the school environment. The characters involved and displayed usually set the genre easily. I like comedy's because they include humour, along with a good story line.Comedys also can include sad moments, and emotional moments which are unpredictable but still works well with the humour.

The look they are giving each other emphasises a relationship of some sort along with the way they are sitting together. I enjoy romance movies because it is calm and not too hard to keep up with. Its all the content that counts, not how good the plot is.
